Dr. Lauren Kimmel is an experienced Optometrist specialising in family eye care, ocular disease, contact lenses, and the management of childhood myopia. She is qualified to prescribe ophthalmic medications for a variety of eye conditions. She has been practicing in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie area since 2012 and is known for professional excellence and her warm and friendly manner.

Dr. Kimmel was educated in the U.S., graduating summa cum laude (with highest honours) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology at Arizona State University before going on to earn a Doctorate of Optometry at the University of Houston.

During her optometric education, Lauren was awarded multiple Letters of Clinical Excellence, the Bausch & Lomb Prize for Cornea & Contact Lens Care, a prestigious National Eye Institute Research Fellowship, and membership in Beta Sigma Kappa, the International Optometric Honour Society. After arriving in Australia, she completed a post-graduate certificate in Ocular Therapeutics at the University of New South Wales. She has lectured on a variety of topics including high risk ocular medications, imaging technology in eye care, and myopia control.

In her free time, Lauren enjoys yoga, dance, and traveling around her new home country with her wonderful husband and their pug dog, Lionel.

Optometric Eye Care

Dr. Kimmel provides:

  • Comprehensive eye examinations including thorough assessment of ocular health and the prescription of vision correction

  • Contact lens fittings including daily disposable, multifocal, overnight wear, keratoconic and rigid lens options

  • Licensed in ocular therapeutics to prescribe medicated eye drops for infective and inflammatory eye conditions

  • Diabetic eye care including advanced retinal imaging

  • Diagnosis and management of ocular diseases including glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eye syndrome, and corneal conditions

  • Full-scope family eye care including paediatric and binocular vision examinations

  • Myopia management including the prescription of special glasses, contact lenses, and eye drops to slow the progression of short-sightedness

  • Urgent eye care including the treatment of “red eye”, trauma, and foreign body removals
